Welcome!
How does a Draft format work?
Well, basically you start with a deckbuilding phase before the tournament starts, similar to the usual Sneak/Premiere event. That is what’s called the Draft. You sit down around the table with all players. You each take your entry packs and open them, one by one, all at the same pace. When you open the pack, you take one card from it to keep and you pass the other cards to the person next to you. Everyone takes a card from the pack they were handed, and passes the pack over to the next person again. And so forth, until all the cards in the pack are taken. You build your Deck with the cards you obtain this way. Minimum Main Deck size is 20, you can use all cards you drafted. Everything not in your main can be put in your Side Deck. The Extra Deck is capped at 15 as usual.
After that, we start the tournament and play Swiss rounds as usual.
The circle of players you sit in caps at the size of the pack, so around 8 people. If we have more players competing, we may have to break up the group into two for the draft. That has no consequences for the people you play against ln the tournament.
The order of players will be determined randomly, to prevent people from working together and ensure an even playing field. After that, the direction in which packs are passed through (clockwise or counter-clockwise) will be determined randomly.
You use exclusively the cards you drafted. You cannot add pre-owned cards, trade with other players, give away cards, etc.
Note that you do only (legally) own the cards you obtain from the draft. For example: if you pull a Fuwalos from your booster pack, you have to take it from the pack if you want to own it, even though it’s not a good card in formats like this.
